  • An online office allows employees to have access to videoconferencing software (eg. Zoom), instant messaging software, and email, However, organizations find it a challenge to redesign their work and take advantage of the online office benefit. Instead, organizational teams ultimately end up recreating an online office from scratch.
  • Asynchronous communication suggests that there is a need to determine the best mode of communication for every piece of information. For instance, if something is urgent, then the mode of communication should reflect that. If you want to cut emotion out of the equation, increase your response time. This can be done by giving people time to think between question and response, rather than fall victim to blurting out the first thing that comes to mind in a meeting or when tapped on the shoulder.
  • The medium of communication an organization is using for online office services prompts the company to invest in better equipment for their employees, such as lighting for video calls and background noise-canceling microphones.
